For years, I was the kind of teacher who followed the textbook. I’ve taught everything from kindergarten to 8th grade, and I worked hard to plan lessons, cover vocabulary lists, and check off grammar points. But despite all that effort, something was missing. My students weren’t connecting with the language, or with me. I could feel it. They were trying to memorize Spanish, not live it. And honestly? I was exhausted and uninspired.
Everything changed when I started teaching with stories.
The first time I told a simple story in Spanish, I was amazed. My students were engaged, smiling, leaning in, reacting. And the best part? They understood. Not just words here and there, but meaning. They were acquiring the language in a way that felt joyful, effortless, and real.
It was like a light turned on in my classroom, and in me.
Using stories transformed my teaching. My students began to use Spanish, not just repeat it. They laughed, guessed what would happen next, asked questions, and remembered details weeks later. Suddenly, I saw their confidence grow, and my own grew with it. I finally felt like I was teaching in a way that honored how kids learn best: through joy, play, and connection.
But there was a big problem. I couldn’t find many resources made for elementary students, especially ones that were truly designed for language acquisition. Most of what I found was too advanced, too textbook-y, or simply not engaging for young learners.
And honestly, I was tired, tired of spending hours searching for resources across different platforms, piecing together materials that didn’t connect, and constantly reinventing the wheel. I craved something cohesive, something that would save me time and actually support how kids learn language.
So, I started writing my own stories. First, just for my students. Then, I began sharing them on Teachers Pay Teachers.
Eventually, I realized this was more than a few resources, it was a mission.
That’s how Aventuras in Learning was born.
Aventuras in Learning is a story-based educational platform designed to support elementary and Spanish teachers by offering resources that help students acquire Spanish naturally through storytelling, while saving teachers valuable planning time.
Each story includes:
★ Flashcards to introduce vocabulary
★ Two video versions – one in the present tense and one in the past tense
★ A digital flipbook for teachers to read at their own pace
★ A comprehension video with questions to check understanding
★ Five interactive games: memory, patterns, drag and drop, sequencing, and sentence completion
★ Printable activities to extend the learning
★ Teaching tips with cultural background information
★ Three differentiated levels
★ And, of course, adorable characters your students will fall in love with
My dream is to build an entire curriculum with these stories—one that brings language to life through characters, visuals, repetition, and joy. A curriculum that supports teachers with everything they need to teach effectively and meaningfully.
And the best part? I’m already doing it. Every story, resource, and update in Aventuras in Learning is part of that vision coming to life, designed to save teachers time, engage students, and make Spanish acquisition a joyful adventure.
